Name-formation and proprial word-formation

The article is focused on the definitions and use of two seemingly synonymous terms: názvotvorba "name-formation" and propriální slovotvorba "proprial word-formation". These terms differ in two major aspects: (1) While the subject of the proprial word-formation is the morphemic structure of the name, the term name-formation, reflecting the specific traits of proper names and their rise by the naming act, includes also its motivation. (2) The subject of the name-formation is the overall structure of a proper name, whereas the proprial word-formation analyses only the internal structure of the individual lexical unit forming a part of a name. This distinction is noticeable especially in anoikonyms (minor place names) with a typical multiple-word structure. Both of these approaches are compared and their use and relevance are discussed
