The Dragon class was one of many which competed in the Houston Yacht Club's annual regattas in the 1960s. Other classes, including some from other clubs, were the Geary 18, Flying Dutchman, Rhodes 19, Finn, Thistle, Sail Swift, Windmill, Jet 14, Sailfish, Maverick, Teal, Sunfish, Triton, Stoutfella, Electra, Star, Corinthian and several cruising classes. This variety represents a strong presence of Gulf Coast sailing and the impact of mass-produced fiberglass boats on the sport
