The author makes use of the battle orders issued by General Santa Anna to his subordinate commander Gabriel Valencia and General Valencia’s replies during the hours leading up to the battle of Churubusco, as well as those issued during the height of the battle itself. The defeat suffered by the Mexican Army led directly to the advance by the United States forces onto the grounds of Chapultepec and their final entrance into Mexico City itself.
