This article reports the current status of the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The focus is on proton physics performance with emphasis on the possible scenarios leading to an upgrade of the LHC performance. The far future of the machine will be shortly discussed. It is worth recalling that the main reference on the LHC machine is [1] together with the references cited therein
