This talk will give an overview of the activities of the openlab Platform Competence Center, collaborating with Intel. The problem of making hardware and software talk to each other efficiently has been around since the concept of computers ever came up, and current times are no different. We will report on the related R&D activities of the openlab PCC, touching on topics ranging from hardware platforms, through compilers, to next-generation physics software. We will also relate to relevant practice in the industry, which made significant progress in the last decade
