Quantifying the relationship between stress-strain and fracture is important to the perfection of fracture capability if it is to be used as a tool for guiding failure operations in geological materials drilling. The development of fracture prediction tools is critical for geological applications in oil and gas industry as the prospects for building understanding empirically will be limited due to the high costs associated with extreme condition field trials (e.g. North Sea).
