Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) signaling is implicated in the aetiology of many psychiatric disorders associated with altered emotional processing. Altered peripheral (plasma) BDNF levels have been proposed as a biomarker for neuropsychiatric disease risk in humans.
