At the beginning of the 12th century, the church of Santiago de Compostela was in posession of a series of churches, found within the territorial borders of the Braga diocese. In the autumn of 1102, Diego Gelmírez, accompanied by a certain number of pastors, set out to locate these possessions. The prelate would return to Compostela with an important trove of relics which he immediately deposited in the church of Santiago de Compostela, according to the Historia Compostelana (I, 15). Which building does Hugo’s text refer to? Is there a possibility that in 1102, Gelmírez desposited the Braga relics in the pre-Roman basilica of Alfonso III?
