This dissertation describes an analysis of proton-proton collisions recorded by theCompact Muon Solenoid (CMS) particle detector experiment at CERN’s Large HadronCollider (LHC). The data were produced at a center of mass energy of 7 TeV during2011, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of about 5 fb−1 . The analysis targetsthe final state of two isolated leptons (electrons or muons) of equal electromagneticcharge, in combination with significant hadronic activity and missing transverse energy in the event. In known processes, described by the Standard Model of ParticlePhysics, the same-sign dilepton signature is uncommon, making its analysis sensitiveto possible contributions from extensions of the theory. The backgrounds from theStandar...
