In cholesteric solvents the anisotropic interactions such as the homonuclear dipolar couplings are partially averaged by molecular motion. The order of magnitude of these interactions is such that it is possible to average them out using a fast magic angle rotation technique. 19F NMR is used to demonstrate that it is thus possible to obtain high resolution spectra in cholesteric media when they are not homogeneously oriented macroscopically. This method allows the measurement of chemical shifts, scalar couplings and relaxation times of small molecules dissolved in chiral nematic phases
