The kinetics and mechanisms of the reactions of cobalt(II) with heptane-3,5-dione have been investigated in aqueous solution at 25°C and ionic strength 0.5 mol dm-3 NaClO4. Two separate relaxations are observed. The kinetic data are consistent with a mechanism in which the metal ion reacts with both the enol and the keto tautomers of the ligand. A detailed reaction scheme is proposed. Co2+ reacts with the enol and keto tautomers of heptane-3,5-dione with rate constants of 67.1 and 0.96 dm3 mol-1 s-1 respectively. The results are discussed in the light of previous work
