El convento de San Francisco de Valdediós, santuario de la tradición de la peregrinación de Francisco de Asís a Santiago de Compostela en 1214

Most of the mendicant orders temples built in Galicia in the thirteenth and early fourteenth centuries were renovated and extended in the late Middle Ages and in modern times. The weight of the tradition of founder’s pilgrimage to Compostela in 1214 and the divine revelation to build convents of his Order in Spain, the first of which would be the Compostela, was the main reason for the conservation of the medieval church up to the XVIII century. This sacred space evoked the founding by San Francisco de Asís. Successive enlargements of the apse and around the nave covered the needs of the faithful. The reforms contributed to its preservation for five centuries. In 1741, its serious wreck status forced its demolition.
