From 1964 onwards, the UN became involved in international efforts to resolve the Cyprus conflict. Identified as a conflict of (British but also Ottoman) decolonization, Cold War, but also as a post-bipolar «new conflict», this case attracts the attention of all conflict resolution specialists. The UN, but also third States or even private actors acting as mediators, try, on the one hand to apply processes already tried elsewhere, or even at other times, and on the other hand to innovate. Cyprus is thus a laboratory for experimenting with different approaches and solutions to conflict resolution, all the more easily as it is one of the few truly «frozen» conflicts (since 1974).
