Purpose. This article considers the problem of language equivalence, influence of William Shakespeare’s sonnets and plays on the lexical and ideological content of Emily Dickinson’s poetry, her language personality and world picture; analyses possible coincidences, identical ideas, and key images in the poetry of both authors; undertakes simultaneous analysis of W. Shakespeare’s sonnets and E. Dickinson’s poems; highlights themes and key images that are repeated in the work of both authors; researches the peculiarities of stylistic influence and expressive means of the English language on the example of works by W.
