In France, ecological compensation has existed since the 1976 Law on the Protection of Nature. Over the past decade, there has been a renewed interest in its application, though many questions still remain unanswered.. The choices of implementation systems and the effects they will have on the objective of no net loss (NNL) of biodiversity are not resolved. There is potentially a gap between the stated objective for compensation and these real effects when it is implemented. We propose to characterize it.
