The article analyzes the results of a survey of students of the Faculty of Primary Education of Khachatur Abovian Armenian State University in order to find out the level of media competence of the respondents. The data obtained confirm the general trend that usually less than a quarter of students reveal a high level of development of the motivational index of media competence. A significant majority of respondents demonstrate a low level of the motivational index. The analysis of the received data proves that a high degree of media contact frequency and a high level of media competence’s motivational index are not directly linked with an ability level to analyze a media text comprehensively.
