Background The hours immediately following a traumatic event may present a window of opportunity to interrupt the consolidation of memories of the traumatic event, and this may prevent PTSD development. This theory has been validated in a series of analogue studies, showing that a visuo-spatial task reduces intrusive memories, however clinical studies are scarce.
