Nine years of experimentation with ultrarelativistic Pb beams at the SPS have allowed us to collect an unprecedented amount of information on the properties of bulk, strongly interacting matter. A quick tour of the gallery of the main experimental results is presented and the global picture is discussed. (17 refs)
