BackgroundIn mammalian species, hypoxia is a prominent feature of inflammation. The role of hypoxia in regulating macrophage responses via alteration in metabolic pathways is well established. Recently, oxidative burst-induced hypoxia has been shown in murine macrophages after phagocytosis.
