Giant hydronephrosis diagnosed after abdominal trauma

Giant hydronephrosis (GH) is defined as a huge swelling due to the presences of fluid that occupies hemi-abdomen and crosses the midline. Although most cases are diagnosed during the neonate period, some cases could be detected incidentally in childhood. In this study we report a rare case of giant hydronephrosis of an 11-year-old boy who presented to hospital after abdominal trauma. The Computed tomography (CT) showed a left renal hematoma. After 24 h of strict bed rest, the patient developed vital instability. Emergent surgery was performed. The left kidney was severely lobulated with thinned cortex. Thus, a nephrectomy was performed, and the patient was in good health. Five days later, the patient was discharged as the follow-up showed no complaints
