Resistive plate chambers will be part of the muon detector in the CMS experiment designed for the Large Hadron Collider. Performances of RPCs operated under an appropriate configuration will be presented. Basic parameters of the detector will be discussed and reviewed with the help of Monte Carlo predictions and experimental data. (14 refs)
