[[abstract]]The fundamental equations of generalized thermoviscoelasticity with one relaxation time parameter have been written in the form of a vector matrix differential equation in Laplace transform domain and solve by eigenvalue approach. The resulting formulation is applied to different cases: (i) thermal shock problem, (ii) problem of Layer medium, both without heat sources and (iii) plane distribution of heat sources on whole and semi−space. Finally numerical results are given and illustrated graphically for each problem. Comparisons are made with the results predicted by both the coupled theory and with the theory of generalized thermoviscoelasticity with one relaxation time parameter
