[[abstract]]The study explores the inventory replenishment policy for the case with time-varying demand, shortage, constant service level and equal replenishment intervals over a fixed planning horizon. This paper proves that the objective function of a total system cost is convex under a given number of replenishment. Second, we used the computer software Maple V to find the optimal service level. Finally, the method is illustrated by three numerical examples and a sensitivity analysis of the optimal solution with respective to parameters of the system is carried out. Moreover, the advantage of allowing shortage in all cycle (SFI policy) is illustrated with numerical examples
