Avrupa hamsisi Engraulis encrasicolus (Linnaeus, 1758) Actinopterygii sınıfına dahil balıkçılıkta ekonomik değere sahip küçük pelajik bir balıktır. Avrupa hamsisinin yayılış alanı Karadeniz, Azak Denizi, Akdeniz ve Avrupa-Kuzey Afrika Atlantik kıyılarında bulunan sığ sulardır (0-400 m). Bu çalışmada mikrosatellit lokuslarının genotip verileri ve mtDNA kontrol bölgesi dizi verileri kullanılarak Türkiye denizlerindeki Avrupa hamsisinin populasyon genetik yapısı ve genetik çeşitlilik düzeyi belirlenmiştir. Hamsi örneklerinin toplandığı lokaliteler: Doğu Akdeniz (İskenderun ve Mersin), Batı Akdeniz (Antalya), Ege Denizi (Kuşadası), Marmara Denizi (Bandırma ve İstanbul), Batı Karadeniz (Zonguldak), Orta Karadeniz (Terme, Perşembe, Fatsa) ve Doğu...
