Developed out of a chapter in my PhD thesis, this article explores the implications of improvisational research methodologies in site-based community arts practice, with reference to the 2006 TWIG Project. The article explores action-based research through improvisation and reflection with reference to Guattari's notion of three ecologies and public arts practices concerned with developing 'ecologies' in natural, mental and social spheres.
