The Indiana Woman's Suffrage Association's record book illustrates one of the earliest efforts for women's equality in Indiana. Founded in Richmond, Indiana, in 1851, and orginially known as the Woman's Rights Association of Indiana, the organization made an unconventional and controversial demand for women's equality in all political and social spheres. The volume contains minutes of the annual and semi-annual conventions, treasurers' reports, and the preamble and constitution of the Woman's Rights Association of Indiana. Hannah Hiatt of Winchester, Indiana, was its first president. Amanda M. Way and Mary F. Thomas were also associated with the organization's early history.
