An investigation of employee satisfaction in the workplace of the South African Police Service

(Business Management)The area of research was the investigation of personnel satifaction within the South African Police Service, and looking at the various areas of the level of satisfaction or dissatisfaction amongst employees within the organisation. Hence, this clearly shows that the major aim of the research was to identify the core components of satisfaction or dissatisfaction of the employees within the said organisation. The management style, career choice by employees, resources, any conflicts, the manner in which employees are treated, training, and the progression and career development within the organisation have been investigated. In addition, employees need to achieve their objectives as much as the organisation need to, this means that there must be a reciprocal relationship within the working environment. Moreover, employees need to feel valued and respected by the management of the organisation. Furthermore, employees feel highly motivated when they are trained and developed in order to perform their duties skillfully. However, in the absence of those and do not experience any form of personal growth and development they may feel dissatisfied. In other instances employees choose careers that are not compatible with their values, because of the lack of opportunities in the areas of their interest. Hence, they get demotivated within a very short space of time in their employment and resign at a later stage, or either result in a lack of commitment, passion, energy and citizenship. The research area has revealed the precise factors that contribute to the high level of satisfaction and or dissatisfaction within the South African Police Service
