Photographers Association of America - Indianapolis 1915

The Photographers Association of America held their annual convention in Indianapolis in July 1915. The group, seen here at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway track, was formed in 1880 to enhance the art and science of photography. They used their annual meetings to introduce products and share knowledge with their fellow photographers. The organization changed its name in 1958 to Professional Photographers of America. The Bretzman family appears in this image; the man in a dark jacket kneeling behind the automobile is Charles Bretzman, the small boy in a sailor suit and two girls in striped jackets and white skirts next to him are Bretzman children, his wife Bertha is wearing gloves and hat and is standing behind and to the left of the taller girl.The original nitrate negative was copied with funds provided by a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission in 1990.
