In 3-15% of the cases, this results in the occurrence of leakage whereby the intestinal contents are leaking into the abdominal cavity. This can lead to serious infections which can lead to death. No material is available to seal watertightly the suture-line. Petra Bouten’s thesis describes the synthesis and properties of material that can be used for the preparation of tissue adhesive tapes which can reduce the number of leakages.
