Ik laat zien, dat femtoseconde laser pulsen gebruikt kunnen worden om magnetisme in materialen voor de volgende generatie harde schijven te karakteriseren en manipuleren. Dit onderzoek is van belang voor de dataopslag industrie. Verder toon ik aan, dat de magnetische structuur van bepaalde amorfe ijzer-legeringen gemanipuleerd kan worden door laser pulsen en (hoge) magneetvelden.
