An investigation was conducted on a new viscosity modifier, herein referred to as VMA, to determine its effects and compatibility with commercially available superplasticizers and local cements. Marsh cone tests were conducted on cement pastes to compare saturation points and the influence of the viscosity modifying admixture. It was found that the VMA gave improved results when used with a polycarboxylate-based superplasticizer and also reduces the required dosage of the superplasticizer needed to achieve specific fluidity. However, it was observed that the VMA showed no influence whatsoever, when used with the phosphonate based-superplasticizer.
