There weren’t many neighbors in the Pigeon Creek area so the children’s help was needed to create the family farm. Even as a child, Lincoln often helped with the heavy work such as plowing fields, splitting logs into rails, and building fences. In 1819 he and his father helped build the log Pigeon Creek Baptist Church. Lincoln’s father and stepmother joined the church in 1823, but Lincoln never became a member
