Lussier’s analysis of the painting/cinematic strategies employed by Wall in his photographs from the 1990s, focuses on the relationship between the tradition of historical painting and the motivations of contemporary spectacle. Gingras’s interpretation of Wall’s images draws attention to how the phenomenon of displacement effects the status of the image. The concept of the gaze is also discussed. Text in French and English.
