Through an examination of a partnership formed within my visual art practice, this chapter explores how art practices might activate and sustain individuals, organisational cultures and communities in frontier societies off-Earth. It suggests that the strategies and structures for good governance of future societies in space, can be found embedded within the philosophies surrounding the open artist studio at Art Projects Australia, particularly in relation to notions of capacity building, development, leadership,diversity, inclusion, ethics and risk. Further, a few simple best practice guidelines are proposed, as applicable to the governance of artists and non artists working creatively in extra-terrestrial micro-societies
