During this research seminar we will critically discuss contemporary and major issues in international relations. In the first part of the seminar we will examine the following theories: Neorealism, Neoclassical Realism, Liberalism, Institutional Liberalism, Constructivism and the English School of International Relations. We will assess each theory's foundational assumptions, how it conceptualizes the international system, and its ability to explain international politics. The second part of the seminar builds on the first to explore important issues in contemporary international relations including international politics of civil war, state sovereignty, territoriality, international recognition of new states, international intervention an...
