Math 216 studies multivariable calculus using the tools of linear algebra. Basic ideas from one-variable calculus, such as the derivative, integral and Taylor series are studied in the more general setting of n dimensions. In addition, the course serves as an introduction to abstract reasoning and mathematical proof.\ud Topics covered include vectors, multivariable functions (graphs, contour diagrams), limits and the deriva- tive, directional derivatives and gradient, multivariable optimization (constrained and unconstrained), mul- tiple integrals, change of variables, parameterized curves and line integrals, Green’s, Gauss’s and Stokes’s theorems.\ud This course will be demanding. My guess is that homework, reading, etc. will take roughly ...
