Investigators ran adult mice of both sexes through a hot plate test, an abdominal constriction test, and an elevated plus-maze test in order to elucidate the effects of tonal healing on pain and stress behavior. In all three tests, pain behavior was measured in the presence and absence of healing tones. Naloxone reversibility served as a test of opiate mediation. Although the underlying mechanism of the analgesia remains largely unknown, healing tones clearly reduce pain and stress behavior in mice in the presence of noxious stimuli
