The prevalence of Type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes in the Aboriginal Australian population is higher than in the non-Aboriginal Australian population [1,2]. The strength of the association between gestational diabetes and subsequent Type 2 diabetes varies among different ethnic groups, with relative risks ranging from 1.3 in Hispanic women to 47.3 in African-American women [3]. However, the strength of the association in Australian Aboriginal women is still unknown.
