Religion was present in Broad Ripple early. A Methodist camp meeting was held in the area in 1836. In 1851, with no one faith able to sustain a place of worship on its own, subscriptions were made and the Union Church building was built at the northwest corner of present day Westfield and Guilford in Wellington. The church was used by Methodists, Presbyterians and Baptists. Known as the Community House, it was also the setting for the municipal activities of the town.Image courtesy A.
