Born in 1740, Gibson was secretary of the Indiana Territory for its entire existence, 1800–1816, and served as acting governor during two critical periods when Harrison was not available. He completed a census of the Territory and was intimately involved in Native American affairs. He oversaw the relocation of records and offices to the new capital of Corydon. In 1816 Gibson returned to his native state, Pennsylvania. He was buried there in 1822. No portrait of him has ever been found.Destination Indiana - Governors of Indiana, 1801-1849 Journe
