In the mid 1890s an inconspicuous scruffy looking dog which became his trademark began appearing in many of McCutcheon's drawings. He was playing games with his audience and in his autobiography he affirmed that there was no significance to the dog which continued to invoke questions and speculations. The dog appeared intermittently in his drawings throughout his career. The image depicted here is from his "Self Portrait."Destination Indiana - John T.
