Floyd Hopper's studies at Herron began when the building was brand new and had approximately 100 students, most from Indianapolis. At first he signed up for commercial art, but later switched to fine arts. Hopper was very poor, and he would use paints in school that other students had discarded. Between classes he waited tables at the Colonial Tea Room at 14th and Pennsylvania Streets. He earned $15/week in tips and received free meals.Use of this image is restricted to projects related to Destination Indiana. IHS may not reproduce
