Life in 1830s America is depicted in lush detail through eyes of Swiss illustrator Karl Bodmer. With a German prince, the artist journeyed to the nation's interior, less populated regions, documenting the natural environment. The result: scenic watercolors of landscapes, rivers, woods, native peoples, and settlements. A Wabash River scene near New Harmony was among the views. Bodmer created a "faithful and vivid image" of America, and his work became the subject of publications and exhibitions.Destination Indiana - IHS Treasures Rare Book
