Viticulture and winemaking were evident early in the state's history, due in part to the influence of Swiss and German immigrants coming to southeastern Indiana in the early 1800s. Through years of experience, gained both in Switzerland and the Midwest, John James Dufour espoused to his readers the essentials for effective grape cultivation and winemaking in the United States, offering instruction and vital information. Much of Indiana's early winemaking history can be traced directly to Dufour.#1938.0431Destination Indiana - IHS Treasures Rare Book
