Add to ORKGEli Lilly was born in 1838, in Baltimore, Maryland. Named after his grandfather, he was the first of 11 children born to Gustavus and Esther Kirby Lilly. Eli was an infant when the family moved to Kentucky. They remained there for more than a decade. To ensure a good education for his children, Gustavus moved the family in 1852 to Greencastle, Indiana, home of Indiana Asbury College, now DePauw University.Use of this image is restricted to projects related to Destination Indiana.
