In 1947 the Indiana Historical Society decided to find out how many farms in the state had been in the same families for 100 years or more. They partnered with Purdue University's county agricultural agents who helped promote the study. Families completed these applications giving the location of the farm and listing the family members who had owned it. Each application was checked using land records in the Indiana State Archives to prove or disprove the accuracy of the information. Those who qualified were awarded certificates and could purchase bronze medallions with the seal of the Historical Society and the words: " Centennial Farm Family" on it.Destination Indiana Agriculture Centennial Farm
