International audienceAristotelian analysis has imposed in European thought a very negative understanding of ‘demagogy’. The origin and construction process of this interpretation must be questioned. The concept of demagogy, first documented in the last quarter of the fifth century, may result from the sophistic interest in the use of techne rhetorike and their thinking about how to be influent in a democracy.
