: The contribution of the Gaceta de Madrid to the loss of prestige of Carlos IV and of the Ancient Regime for the exaltation of Napoleon (1804-1808)

International audienceThe official Gaceta de Madrid played an important role in informing the public of current political issues beyond the Pyrenees. This study, which, analyses the numerous articles published about France between 1804 (the year when Napoleon acceded to the Imperial Throne) and 108, shows how "gaceteros" (these journalists) - throuch the laudation of French Emperor - contributed to the discredit of Charles IV and the Ancient Regime during the turn-of-the century and the eve of the Peninsular WarEntre los cometidos de la muy oficial Gaceta de Madrid figuraba informar al público sobre la actualidad política que se desarrollaba fuera del país. En este estudio, que analiza los numerosos artículos relativos a Francia entre 1804 (fecha en que Napoleón ciñó la corona imperial) y 1808, se demuestra cómo los gaceteros contribuyeron –exaltando al Emperador de los franceses– al desprestigio de Carlos IV y del Antiguo Régimen en aquella España finisecular y en vísperas de la Guerra de la Independencia
