Anaplasma phagocytophilum is the aetiologic agent of the human granulocytic anaplasmosis (HGA). This tick-borne pathogen has acquired a particular importance in public and veterinary health in the United States and in Europe during these last two decades and HGA is now considered as an emerging disease. Both ticks as vectors and vertebrates as reservoir hosts are essential for the cycle maintenance of this bacterium.
