The purpose of the present work is to determine experimentally and numerically how the magnetic flux density both inside and outside a large grain, bulk high temperature superconductor is modified when placed in the vicinity of axisymmetric ferromagnetic components. The investigated superconductors are bulk (RE)Ba2Cu3O7 cylinders of a few cm³. The ferromagnets are of various sizes and shapes, machined out of well characterized, soft magnetic alloys of high permeability. Both superconductor and ferromagnet have the same diameter and are cooled at the liquid nitrogen temperature (T = 77 K).
